Next-Level BA · training & capability
Experienced Business Analysts need more than a larger toolkit
Next-Level BA is practical development for analysts who already understand the core methods and want to contribute with more confidence in strategic, ambiguous and complex work. It focuses on how BAs think, frame decisions, influence people and adapt when the problem does not arrive in a neat project brief.
"It's a testament to the impact this course had on me that I have spoken about it to everyone at work and in my personal life. It was unequivocally the best, and most valuable, course I have ever attended. I now have a set of practical concepts and tools that I can easily apply to the diverse situations I find myself in within a complex and challenging workplace. Being given permission to go and do the 'thing' was quite freeing for me."
Lea Reid, Business Analyst
Why the role evolves
The next level is the ability to work where the problem is least defined
Many experienced analysts are highly capable once the project, stakeholders and outcome are clear. The harder work often happens earlier.
Deciding whether the organisation is solving the right problem, understanding how a request connects to strategy, navigating competing versions of success and creating enough clarity for a useful project to begin. The growth opportunity is therefore not simply to learn a more sophisticated requirements technique. It is to become more comfortable operating across role boundaries, helping people make decisions and adapting the analysis approach to the level of uncertainty in the work.
The core framework
The Definedness Continuum
The workshop is built around a simple idea: the right approach depends on how well the problem is already understood. Recognising where you are on this continuum is the first step to choosing how to work.
Well defined — applying the playbook
The problem is understood and proven approaches exist. The work is to apply a known playbook well — requirements, vendor shortlists, gap analysis and the like.
Undefined — adapting the playbook
Standard approaches partly fit but need adjusting. The challenge is that this often is not done deliberately, so we miss the moment our usual playbook stops working.
Highly undefined — inventing the playbook
There is no established approach to fall back on. The work is to invent a way forward, drawing on judgement, framing and first principles.
What the workshop develops
Good analysis improves decisions, not just documentation
The workshop explores the practical shifts that allow experienced BAs to add value earlier and more broadly.
Participants consider how the role is evolving, how to recognise the level of definedness in a problem, how to establish what good looks like, how risk tolerance affects the right solution, and how influence and storytelling shape whether good analysis leads to action. The content also examines the organisational barriers that can keep BAs in a narrow delivery role and gives participants a way to bring the ideas together in the context of their own work.

Format and audience
The workshop connects practical models to real project situations
Next-Level BA is designed as an interactive session for experienced analysts, combining stories, visual models, discussion and practical exercises rather than a long sequence of techniques or slides.
The material can be delivered as an open workshop, adapted for an internal BA team or used as the foundation for a broader capability programme. The strongest fit is a group that already has practical project experience and is ready to examine how it works, influences and contributes beyond the traditional expectations of the role.
In-house & coaching
Capability development should change how the team works after the session
A workshop can create shared language and challenge established assumptions, but the greatest value comes when the ideas are connected to the organisation's real work.
I can tailor the material around current projects, facilitate follow-up sessions, coach analysts through difficult assignments or work with practice leaders to strengthen the role BAs play across the wider delivery environment.
